Osteria Murivecchi

The Osteria is located inside the wine cellar where the Ascheri family has been producing its wines since 1880. The atmosphere is charming, there are barrels and bricks in clear view and the restaurant is divided in small rooms with thick wooden tables and old machines such as an old slicer which still works. During the summer you can seat outside in the veranda under a vine pergola. The menu changes weekly and it’s written on a blackboard just as it was done once in small town osterias. Their cuisine is traditional with some creative touches. Among appetizers you’ll find the famous Bra sausage and the unusual curry and cheese Bavarese with “cognà” sauce which is made with grapes and Russet apples from the Langhe, among first courses you’ll find the Castelmagno gnocchi, the tajarin and risottos which are very enticing especially the one prepared with pumpkin and Bra sausage. Among the second courses you should try the red tripe stew with leeks and celery and the pork shank braised in beer. Great desserts ranging from the Pope’s salami (chocolate salami) to the classic Martini pears cooked in red wine. Wide selection of wines which are available also by the glass. Prices range from € 30 to € 40 excluding wines.

Osteria B&B Il Barcollo

A restaurant which guards the local tradition from place different from the one where it is located. Since the start of this year it has been managed by Enrico Neroni in the dining room and his wife Veronica Leone in the kitchen. They were the owners of BARCOLLO restaurant in Amatrice which was completely destroyed after the 2016 earthquake. The owner of Il Girasole, Giovanni Bottero, who was near retirement, decided to generously offer the couple to manage his restaurant in a show of solidarity. From now on Il Girasole will serve Amatriciana cuisine with dishes from the Lazio region. Which means a lot of typical Lazio cold cuts. Among the first courses you’ll find the real Amatriciana (without onions), the mezze maniche with gricia or carbonara sauce, cheese and pepper tonnarelli pasta and the penne with arrabbiata sauce. From their second courses: lamb skewers, grilled lamb chops, “saltimbocca alla Romana” (rolled veal with ham and sage), Vaccinara ox tail and tripe and mushrooms when in season. Homemade desserts: ricotta cakes, English trifle and fruit tarts. The wine list includes labels such as Rosso Piceno and Montepulciano d’Abruzzo as well as some of the best Piedmontese labels. The bill won’t go over 25 euro and the portions are “Amatriciana” sized (meaning plentiful.)

Osteria La Torre

Cherasco, a very culturally lively town which is worth knowing, just as this family run establishment where you’ll find classic and genuine Piedmontese cuisine which has been smartly and creatively revisited. For about 10 years chef Marco Falco, currently aided by his son Matthias, has been offering strictly local and seasonal dishes. All female servers (Gloria, Erica and Sasha) who are cheerful and polite. The atmosphere is modern and welcoming, in the summer you can eat on the terrace surrounded by the greenery. In addition to the à la carte menu, the daily specials are written on the blackboard just as other osterias used to around these parts . Among the appetizers are the classic vitel tonné and 62 ° egg with stewed asparagus and fondue. From their first courses you should try their egg yolk tajarin with Bra sausage ragout or the “plin” agnolotti with three roasted meats and beef stock. Among second courses we recommend the snails which are locally grown, as well as the rabbit civet and the rump steak breaded with grissini. Finish on a sweet note and try the Marsala zabaglione or the delicious sorbets. A la carte meals around € 35. Large wine list with local, national and international labels.

Cantina del Rondò

In the hills of Barbaresco, following the initiative of two people with a passion for their land and its products this restaurant opened its doors in 199. The atmosphere is charming with a great cellar with exposed bricks and sail vaults. After Francarlo’s passing, Emanuela, who’s also Carlo Arpino’s (one of Langa’s great cooks and bakers) niece, has decided to go ahead and make their dream come true. One of their specialties is the “bourgeois vitel tonné”, the meat tartare salad, their extraordinary royal finanziera with rooster, bull and rabbit offal as well as the tajarin with sausage ragout, plin ravioli, “bagnet” farm raised rabbit which is prepared according to the old Alta Langa recipe. Mushrooms and truffles are available when in season and their fruit aspics are not to be missed. Rondò also produces wines such as Nebbiolo, Barbera and Barbaresco. There’s a tasting menu available a € 45, if you order from their à la carte menu you’ll spend a bit more but experiencing Langhe traditional cuisine paired with great wines is well worth the expense and trip. You eat at tables with white tablecloths, in the evening you eat by candlelight and during the summer you can have your dinner in their open air space with a full view of the Langhe. They also offer cooking courses if you wish to learn how to prepare the dishes from their menu.

Ristorante Da Vittorio

Always a good choice restaurant Da Vittorio in Val Tanaro on the road from Piemonte to Liguria. The reception is kind and professional. Chef Gianni Biga is in charge of looking for fresh local and seasonal products. His wife Marcella manages the B&B. The restaurant’s dining rooms are reminiscent of old osterias with an elegant touch. An open air space is available during the summer. Their tasting menu is priced at € 23 and includes one appetizer, a first course, one second course and dessert. An à la carte menu is also available. For starters you can try the deer bresaola with porcini or (if you’re lucky) ovuli mushrooms, rabbit tuna style, seasonal vegetable flan or the unbeatable vitel tonné. Among first courses we recommend the tagliatelle, which are called tajarin around these parts, with mushrooms and truffles or the ravioli with roasted meat sauce. You should also try their fried mushrooms, hazelnut crusted lamb ribs, Ormeasco di Pornassio pork fillet or snails. Their desserts are not to be missed, from the bunet al fernet to the chestnut torte with zabaglione. Their wine cellar has many interesting wines from Liguria and surrounding areas.

Le Piemontesine

This restaurant is located inside a country house that has been elegantly refurbished, surrounded by the sweet rolling hills of Alta Langa. It was opened by an Italian-French couple Charlotte Launay, who welcomes the clients in a bright polished hall and her husband Jerome Migotto, who takes care of the cuisine. The gastronomic offer is based upon products of the territory, in accordance with the seasons and with their own cultivation of vegetables, herbs and fruits. Two menus are on offer, one called of the “discovery” with four courses at 35 euro, except for wine, and the other one called “tasting” with six courses created by the chef at 52 euro or at 70 euro with four glasses of wine. Attractive appetizers like crunchy Cherasco escargots or breaded frogs legs with cream of carrots and ginger; among the first course dishes the traditional plin agnolotti with the rabbit variant and gourmet risottos. Among second course dishes need to be tested the “Rossini” pigeon with crunchy polenta and the lamb crust with herbs. Special desserts created by the chef with seasonal fruits like harvest pears or the attractive Monte Bianco meringue cake, with always different sorbets. The list of wines has a broad range with attention dedicated to the best products of the Langhe and Roero. In the same structure is located a 4 stars hotel with 10 rooms to relax and be pampered.

Il Verso del Ghiottone

Housed into a mansion from the end of the Eighteenth century that has been wisely refurbished, is located the restaurant “Il verso del ghiottone”. Born from the wish of four friends that wanted to offer a cuisine deeply rooted in the territory and traditions of Langa, however adding creative ideas. Gilberto Demaria ande Roberto Campogrande have been entrusted the preparation of recipes with seasonal products directly purchased from local farmers. Two are the available menus, one dedicated to the territory for € 39,00, except for beverages, with Fassone knife cut meat, cupcake with peppers and Jerusalem artichokes, thistles and anchovies, a first course dish that can be chosen among raviolini with plin, hand cut tajarin with three types of meats sauce, among the second course dishes Fassone sliced meat, pig’s cheeks and rabbit thigh, and a dessert of your choice. Then there is a second fish menu called “Galup” which proposes scallops and prawns followed by Cocco linguine with redfish and mussel, and salted codfish with cabbage, squash and ginger and dessert. Upon request attractive dishes like Japan Albese or confit goose chip, glazed Ivrea onions with figs, as well as interesting fish recommendations like shrimp neither raw nor cooked and fish caramelized at passion fruit. Bread and flat bead are homemade like the excellent cakes. Wide list of wines with a nice selection from small producers.

Osteria la Salita

Monforte has a historic center that’s worth visiting. Osteria “La Salita” is located in a courtyard, you enter through a small door and you’ll find yourself in the middle of a very welcoming atmosphere. Chef Marco Saffirio offers a simple and traditional cuisine with creative touches, full of local high quality products thanks to his direct relationship with providers in the area. The tasting menu is priced at € 35 and it includes two starters, a first course, a second course and dessert; € 48 if you add 3 glasses of wine and €42 if you choose their “designated driver” menu with two glasses of wine. You’ll find traditional Piedmontese dishes such as meat tartare, Langa salad,Toma cheese and celery foam, caramel apples, and bent cardoon flan with a light bagna cauda. Among first courses: artichoke stuffed ravioli with tuna style rabbit, or with bronze die squid ink spaghetti with fava beans tomatoes and shrimp. Among second courses you should try the rabbit roulade stuffed with apples, lard and herbs and the cheese sampling served with honey, compotes and dried fruit. For dessert you should try their molten chocolate lava cake with ice cream or the coffee semifreddo accompanied with a soft biscuit.

Trattoria Pane e Vino

This tavern is located in the historic town centre, in a comfortable and elegant environment, with exposed brick surface. Wooden chairs and antique furniture, which immediately make the atmosphere homely. An hospitality that describes itself with the smile of Flavio Marengo, that in the lounge gives advice and accompanies people to discover the delicacies of the Langhe, that Emiliana Morino prepares with her great ability. Its cuisine is based upon zero Km. products of the territory following the rhythms of the seasons. The tastings menu is on offer at 40 euros except for wine, and at 55 euro with 4 glasses of wine, representing a real triumph of Langhe specialties, starting from the typical appetizers like veal with tuna sauce knife cut meat, Bra sausage, followed by the ever present tajarin ai 30 rossi and the delicious beef braised in Barolo; ending it all with the classical bunet from the Langhe. Wide is the selection of cheeses from local producers. Many are recipes containing escargots, that made of Cherasco the capital of heliciculture, and on the appropriate season a menu with mushrooms and Alba’s white truffle. The wine list is rich and well maintained, with wines not only from this area, however entrust with confidence to Flavio who will recommend you the best combination.

Al Bistrot dei Vinai

This bistrot, situated close to the central Piazza Galimberti, has – thanks to its woodgrain furniture and its exposed bottles – a contemporary and hip feel, just like its kitchen. Here, at a rapid pace, Chef Paolo Vinai and his staff are responsible for an impressively wide menu. Every day, a different one-course meal is offered, which can be a first course, a second course, a salad, or a pizza – priced between 7 and 9 Euros (including a drink but excluding the service charge). The a la carte menu gives a very broad range of options, with fish and meat starters, or exquisite handmade pasta, such as sea bass ravioli or hand-cut tagliatelle with either meat ragu’ sauce or fish sauces. As second courses, you can choose meat dishes from the brasserie, but also tuna or swordfish tagliata. The desserts are sophisticated and worth a try. The average price is 30 Euros. Extensive wine list with prestigious labels. A more cosy and intimate atmosphere is ensured in the new rooms furnished in a modern and elegant style where you can enjoy tasty recipes with friends or as a couple in a more relaxing and well-kept environment. You can also find some new double rooms with kitchen for tourists who want to extend their stay in Cuneo and dedicate more time to visit the city and its surroundings.
